TYCIA stands for ‘Turn Your Concern into Action’, a motive our organisation abides by.
Turn Your Concern Into Action, is a not for profit organization that was founded out of two college friends’ disquiet of seeing undocumented children who were not enrolled in any school playing and working in the streets of their neighborhood in Delhi, India. They initially approached the government and private schools in the vicinity but found themselves disappointed by the lack of solutions provided. Having explored all the possible avenues, they decided to take things in their hands: their driving motive was the belief that they could through education enable those children to carve out a better future for themselves. That is how the organization's project “Pathshala” was born in 2011 and has since then contributed to offering formal education to 103 children.
Seeing their first project materialize into a concrete solution for those who need an educational opportunity, their ambition grew, and they invited other motivated young people to join the team. Coming from different cultural, religious and professional backgrounds, the team members have one essential belief in common:
Inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all is the way to a fair and equal society
With that conviction in mind, a diversity of educational projects have since then been developed in the organization with a special focus on communities and populations that have often been ignored. From tribal farmer training programs in remote geographies, to bridge-schooling centres for out-of-school children in Satpura Forest, tailored educational solutions for incarcerated youth in Tihar Prison, experiential learning summer programs for minorities from abroad and holistic education solution for children in the Himalayas, TYCIA is committed to empower the most vulnerable sections of society through education and training. Around 10.000 lives have today been impacted by the organization’s efforts and the team, which is today constituted of 11 core team members and 56+ on ground staff, is daily implicated in adapting its solutions and programs to the beneficiaries needs.
The organization does not wish to label as “charitable” or “working for the underprivileged” because it strongly believes that such labels rob the beneficiaries of their dignity. The people they work with are people who need an educational opportunity to rise and TYCIA is happy to contribute to it.
